The European Research Council (ERC) has established a database of mentors, consisting of ERC grant winners and former ERC application panelists who have agreed to act as mentors for future applicants. In Poland, the largest research funding agencies have joined the initiative, including the National Agency for Academic Exchange.
On April 3rd this year, new ERC Mentoring Initiative Regulations were introduced.
The changes to the regulations concern two significant areas and include:
- Increase in remuneration for mentors to a flat rate of EUR 500 gross for a single mentoring service, covering a maximum of 16 hours. All agencies considered this change to be justified and agreed to it.
- Reduction in the number of documents required from mentors by waiving the obligation to prepare two additional documents: a mentoring report and an application assessment form. Entities concluding agreements with mentors will still be able to use their own templates for contracts for services.
Who can apply?
- Winners of national grants from all four national agencies (NCBR, NCN, NAWA, FNP) who:
- meet the eligibility criteria to apply for the following main ERC grants: ERC Starting, ERC Consolidator, ERC Advanced Grants,
- plan to apply for an ERC grant in a competition for which the submission of applications begins in the same year as the given edition of ERC MI or the following year,
- are winners of one of the projects financed by Polish agencies listed on the above website. As far as NAWA is concerned, these are: Polish Returns NAWA, NAWA Chair, Bekker NAWA, Ulam NAWA.
